Bad Gyal RiRi; The Anti Album

 Image by Live Nation via Live Nation {http://www.livenation.co.uk/venue/4489/stadio-san-siro-tickets}

So I've been literally listening to RiRi's album since the day it was released on Tidal. I must say, I love the direction she went in. It's still the "Raw Rihanna" we  all know her to be. There's something about the vibe of it, I'm sure many could rock with it. Anti is the perfect title for a record like this. Rihanna gives off that I don't give a shit demeanor. She 100% keeps it all the way real with these lyrics.

For starters the way she released this album was Bad Ass. She basically gave it away. Make you wonder, What does this Pop Princess has in store for us next.

Lets get into "Anti"....

As I listen to a song like Consideration, one can only assume she's letting the world know that she does things her own way. One of my favorites is  Kiss It Better, She sings about rekindling an old relationship. Many females can relate to a record like this. You may not have gotten it right the first time around. But who's to say the second time won't be worth the fight. The music and melody is great on the ears. Moving right along to "Woo". Have you ever been in an argument with your boyfriend or Ex and said, "you will never find another like Me?" or " I don't really care about you?" and not mean it. Basically she's letting him know just this. It starts of as sarcasm and towards the end of the song she lets him know she still loves him.

Did Rihanna just drop the latest female anthem with "Needed Me?" Some say this song is savage. She definitely goes hard with lyrics like  But Baby, don't get it twisted You was just another nigga on the hit list Tryna fix your inner issues with a bad bitch. Didn't they tell you that I was savage? Fuck ya white horse and carriage. Bet you never could imagine Never told you, you could have it. I'm really feeling Yeah, I Said It, females shouldn't be afraid to tell their man how they want it sexually. She breaks it down Raw and Uncut. This next song is in heavy rotation on the radio and it also features Drake. Yes I'm talking about WORK. This track makes me want to get up and Wine my hips. Not to many understand what the Bad Gyal is saying because she speaking in Patois. Honestly it isn't hard to decipher. Open your ears a little bit, you'll understand her. In this song she wants a deeper connection with her man or significant other, meanwhile he's mostly interested in sex. I'm going to wrap it up with Sex With Me, these days females are bragging about their sex. They are letting him know that they have that "good good".
I didn't go through every song, overall RiRi is letting us know what she wants and how she wants it!!!

Are You A Beat Rider Or A Lyric Seeker?

                                             http://youtu.be/VRuoR--LdqQ

We can get caught up with catchy hooks and banging beats. I honestly have to listen to the song in its entirety to figure out what the artist is talking about.Simply because I'm focusing on the sound. Hearing a hot beat will make you want to get up and dance or go out and party. In most cases its the sound that draws you in. But what about the LYRICS?
My sons love music just a much as I do. If its not on television, radio or coming from their friends they search for it. The other day they asked me to download "Move That Dope". The look on my face was like Not!

http://youtu.be/wHguy4xHGSg
Video Source: Youtube.com

They Couldn't understand why I said no. Given the name of the song, that was enough for me. I took it a step further and goggled the lyrics.    http://rapgenius.com/Future-move-that-dope-lyrics  I scratched my head and thought Why? These artist has so many young and Mature fans that are influenced by their music. Why Give them something to set them back? There's the ongoing debate that we as parent have control of what we let our children hear and see. This is true. One minute we are encouraging them to listen to Pharell's song "Happy". But have to hide a song like Move That Dope" that he's featured in. When I gave my boys the reason why that song will not be downloaded the first thing out their mouths was. " But I thought Pharell was good?". Can't Wait Until The Day We Do Better Because We Know Better.

Are The 90's Artist Making A Come Back?

Please say it is so, Mason Betha has a new single getting some air play entitled, "Nothing"  featuring new talent Eric Bellinger. Can't expect nothing less coming from Mase. Fun and flirty lyrics with a classic Mase video to go along. We have the pleasure of seeing his current girlfriend malaysia pargo in the video. Like I said it fun and for the women. He's not bashing women. Did Take Mr. Betha to come back and show women how we should be treated? Listen to the song below.

I'm Not Giving Up The Goods

Finally a video to go along with the song. JHud looks amazing in her walk it out video. I know everyone likes to hear her sing her heart felt ballads but whats wrong with switching things up every now and then. The song is fun, but honestly females can learn a little something from it. Stop giving up the goods before knowing what your getting yourself into. Just because a man look good and has swag does not mean he's worth your time. Let alone get to dip his hands in the cookie jar.

We Are More Than Sports, We Are More Than Music

photo credit: The Secret Life of Bees

I love a good movie, I can sit down and watch with my sons. Whom are all  under the age 10. Especially a movie that will give them something to think about.
Dakota Fanning asked Tristan Wilds if he wanted to be a professional football player. His reply, "WHY DO WHITE PEOPLE ALWAYS THINK SPORTS IS THE ONLY WAY WE CAN BE SUCCESSFUL".
But what's disturbing is that some Black people think the same way. Some believe the fasted way to become successful is by becoming a ball player or musical artist. We need to think bigger than that. There's way more to life than being a celebrity. We don't always see what comes along with the glitz and glamour.

What Three Songs Would You Play For Someone That is Visually Impaired?

I was asked the following question a few days ago and I'm still stuck. What three songs would I choose to play for someone who is visually impaired?

My first choice would most definitely be Michael Jackson's " Man In The Mirror". My Second would be, "Wake Up Everybody". The Harold Melvin and The Blue Note or John Legend Version. For My third choice, I'd Pick a Lauryn Hill Song. One from her Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill album. Looking at the songs I chose. I'm thinking they are a bit deep. I would like to let this person know that despite my song choice there are things we could be happy about and celebrate as well.

So what three songs would you choose?

Lauryn L Boogie Hill; Mic Check

PhotoSo the other day I told you guys about Lauryn Hill and her mini me, (daughter) Selah hitting the stage together. Lauryn Hill, we're ready for you to do a major tour? We miss your voice, your style and the knowledge you deliver.Photo There are too many critics discrediting her voice. Photo  Her flow is still there if not better. Lauryn can still move the crowd. From the videos I've come across, she still got it. There are a few dates in June to see L Boogie but not enough. We need this to happen asap. In the meantime, we'll settle for what we come across on the web, and in our playlist. Photo

Good Kisser

Call me a freak if you want to, but the first time I heard this song I was hooked. Usher has done it, yet again. The beat alone is nothing to play with. It makes you want to stop what you're doing and go get you some. A very sexy tune I must say.

I have to hear it a few time before moving on to the next track. I can see my club goers looking at each other from across the room hearts racing, this song will give the guy with the weakest game the confidence to approach a female. Meanwhile ladies, I know we'd play into it. What's wrong with a tease? Being a flirt hasn't hurt anyone.  Who said having responsible fun is a crime? Now for you ladies that have a man at home, all I can say is hmm... What's wrong with pleasing your man? If your lacking in this department put this song on.
These words right here should encourage you ....

 I can't keep my control
Every time that I see you hit that floor
Just keep on givin' it to me, I want mine
Just come on baby, just give it to me, give it up to me

Imagine its your man singing this to you. This song will do it for you.

I Never Knew A Love Like This

I kept listening to this song over and over again an thought, how could I flip this and not make it about my man. It would be about my love for music.

Photo

http://youtu.be/BPTZVmJrIpoPhoto

Isn't awesome that you can listen to a song, and that song can uplift you?
Whenever I need spiritual guidance or inspiration. I shuffle through my Gospel favorites.  At the end of my selections I'm either in tears because I feel the words were meant for me; or jamming because it feel so good to my soul.

PhotoPop and Hip-Hop are what I call the "In tunes" . The stuff that get you hype or ready to party. My kids an I love dancing around the house. At times we end up laughing so hard at each other. I laugh because they are trying to do all the dances that are in. They laugh at me because they can't believe  I can do them too. Music feels a void. PhotoIt really takes me out of my element. Dancing and singing. Oh yeah, sometimes I think I can rap too.  Music has been apart of my life since I was a little girl. I remember my grandmother singing gospels songs. My Mahalia Jackson. My dad was Luther Vandross to me. I can hear him singing now. Guess that's where I get the itch to sing from. Now don't get me wrong, I wasn't blessed with the best voice but I that has never stopped me before. Photo
When things were going to hell right before my eyes, my escape would be my music. Any time I hear someone call a female a bitch. I instantly hear Queen Latifah's, U.N.I.T.Y . That was the song to put a dude in check back in the day. Oh how I love my R&B . I have a song for every happy, sad, emotional, and exciting moment in my life. My boyfriend said I'm stuck in the 90's. PhotoBecause when I hear one of my jams I have turned it up and tell a story.
Music has changed so much. But I can always find a song for whatever mood I'm in. When I need to go to sleep and can't because I'm dealing with life's everyday stress; Music wraps its arms around me and sings me to sleep. Besides God, I can always count on it to get me through a trying day. I never knew a love like this...Photo

I'm A 90's Girl

What's the first song that comes to mind when you think of the 90's?Photo You can't think of just artist, Photo
its like the list never ends. If you think about it for a minute or two, every genre was popping. It's time to take you back a bit. As I type I'm listening to Pandora "90's R&B".

Photo As the songs play, I'll talk about about it. As I post the videos, I want you think about what was going on in your life at that time.Photo
About a month ago I was with my cousin and a friend in my truck. I always have music on. But when this song came on they got all excited and started singing.

We started talking about what we were into, how we dressed and had a few laughs.

"Thong song" http://youtu.be/Oai1V7kaFBk
I don't know about you guys but anything with Dru Hill and Sisqo was on heavy rotation. Both male and females were feeling the Thong Song. You know all the chicks started getting creative with the type of thongs they wore at that point.  That summer thongs were on display.

En Vogue was one of my favorite girl groups. Everyone in this group sang their butts off. They had Hit after Hit. Set It Off had a great soundtrack. We can't leave TLC out. They made a statement with "Ain't 2 proud 2 beg".

I remember I was banned from singing this song. My parents didn't listen to all the words. They had radar ears for what that wanted to hear.

  "Understanding" by Xscape,Photo
 http://youtu.be/HR5J5jUDcnA

Ladies how many of you remember  trying to harmonize with your girlfriends?  "What I need from you is understanding, How can we communicate if you don't hear what I say...." The kids these days know about Kandi and Tiny from their reality shows. I'm sure they couldn't name one song these two sung or wrote. Jermaine Dupri had some hot groups back in the day. We all dance to

I loved Kris Kross. Girls were crushing on who liked Daddy Mac or Mac Daddy. May he RIP. Dudes were wearing their clothes backwards and baggy. But their pants were on their ass. I dont' get why they started sagging. Remember cross colors? That was around the same time. Early 80's to late 90's. I can't believe we used to dress that way.

 What about the collaborations
"What's it gonna be", Busts ft. Janet Jackson.

http://youtu.be/vf3R-GL8Vfo

Janet and Busta Did the damn thing on this song and video. Busta can still hang with these young bucks out now. Just today I heard him on a Beyonce Partition Remix.   Whatever happen to Zhane? Well its a groove thang, Its gotta funky swing.

Wow these songs still rock.
http://youtu.be/HrBnEaQd4ZY
My Parents thought I was crazy singing TLC's Ain't 2 Proud 2 beg. Hell I used to blast  "I wanna sex up you" or Jodeci " Freek'n you" when I alone.
These were songs you sang real low when your parents were around; but when you got around your friends you sang the song like you understood what they were really talking about. Then there was LL Cool J, "Doin it". We'd get together and discuss what he was talking about  and how sexy he was.
http://youtu.be/lHHtTPH8Nkg

I swear I couldn't stand LL when he first came out. But then he toned down that hardcore image and focused on talking to the ladies. That did it for me. How about a song you'd sing to your woman or man? Deborah Cox ft. RL from Next, "We can't be friends". I think we can all relate to this one time or another. This song was played when
you were still feeling your ex, and being friends was hard to deal with.
http://youtu.be/01yPbUXnJZk

Who didn't love 702 "Get it together", or Subway "This lil game we play".
http://youtu.be/LdpQfyJFu9A

Photo
"Blackberry Molasses" was my jam. Mista wasn't around for long. But we got Bobby Valentino still doing a lil something. Mary J. Blige and R. Kelly was it in the 90's. They have too many songs to just pick one.  Mary, " love no limit", " Reminisce",  and "Real love".
 http://youtu.be/kAzKXfAwh48
Kellz and his freaky self  has hella hits. " you remind me of my Jeep",

 http://youtu.be/oj_BwSUusbs

Everybody knew I was in love with NAS! I loved his Lyrics and his Cuteness. He was raw but real. He spoke the truth. When he did "If I Ruled The world"
I almost fell out. I love Miss Lauryn Hill. These two are my all time favorites.
I don't think it would be fair to single out One song from L Boogie"s Miseducation Of Lauryn HIll. The whole album is a classic. But If I have to say any, I love Zion, Doo Wop (That Thing) and Nothing Even Matters feat. D'Angelo.

Bad Boy Ruled the charts in the 90's. Puff had Lil Kim, Faith, Carl Thomas, 112,  Craig Mac and Total. I know I'm leaving someone out of this 90's journey.
