Lauryn L Boogie Hill; Mic Check

PhotoSo the other day I told you guys about Lauryn Hill and her mini me, (daughter) Selah hitting the stage together. Lauryn Hill, we're ready for you to do a major tour? We miss your voice, your style and the knowledge you deliver.Photo There are too many critics discrediting her voice. Photo  Her flow is still there if not better. Lauryn can still move the crowd. From the videos I've come across, she still got it. There are a few dates in June to see L Boogie but not enough. We need this to happen asap. In the meantime, we'll settle for what we come across on the web, and in our playlist. Photo

She Inspired Us With Her Words

When You hear the name Dr. Maya Angelou we think Poetry. She was a true example of an Phenomenal woman. She spoke volumes and moved us all with her drive to educate and nurture mankind. Most of what we quote are excerpts of her writing.

She was far more than her poetry, Dr. Angelou gave us guidelines to live by through knowledge, speech, plays, song, dance, television and cinema. To hear her speak was music to our ears and nutrients to our body. She spoke in a poetic tone that drew you in by feeding your mind, heart and soul. She was forever selfless with her knowledge. She taught us to be firm in our beliefs and striving to reach our dreams.

You will truly be missed Dr. Angelou, but never forgotten.

Good Kisser

Call me a freak if you want to, but the first time I heard this song I was hooked. Usher has done it, yet again. The beat alone is nothing to play with. It makes you want to stop what you're doing and go get you some. A very sexy tune I must say.

I have to hear it a few time before moving on to the next track. I can see my club goers looking at each other from across the room hearts racing, this song will give the guy with the weakest game the confidence to approach a female. Meanwhile ladies, I know we'd play into it. What's wrong with a tease? Being a flirt hasn't hurt anyone.  Who said having responsible fun is a crime? Now for you ladies that have a man at home, all I can say is hmm... What's wrong with pleasing your man? If your lacking in this department put this song on.
These words right here should encourage you ....

 I can't keep my control
Every time that I see you hit that floor
Just keep on givin' it to me, I want mine
Just come on baby, just give it to me, give it up to me

Imagine its your man singing this to you. This song will do it for you.

How To Love

The things we do to ourselves because of our past hurts.

photo credit: Lil Wayne How to Love video
She grew up watching her parents fight, just about every weekend. A phone call with him asking her mom where she'd been? Which is how it usually started. She didn't have to hear the questions asked, because of  her mothers response.

photo credit: Lil Wayne How to Love video
She'd say something like "Huh what are you talking about?" '' I've been here! "Where are you?'' At that moment She would get dress and get back in bed and wait. The phone calls would continue until he got there. It was on, when she heard the key in the door. Her heart would literally jump out her throat when she heard door open. She would lay there in bed and wait until she heard her mother screaming. At times she would try and break it up and other times she would leave. Imagine running out of the house just to get away from what was about to take place.

She may as well  have been  invisible. No one came to  look for her nor did she get in trouble when she finally came back. They were so engrossed in their twisted love it sickened the hell out of her. The same man that stood up to take the position of her missing father, abused she and her mom with out a soul knowing.

She  always wore a big bright smile regardless of the challenges and pain she endured behind  those closed doors.

When you're hurt in every way possible by the people you trust, your heart becomes hardened and your ability to love and trust becomes a lifelong battle. You know the saying, " you don't know what you have until its gone ? " She was gradually losing a battle with love and trust and herself.  She fought love all the the way around. This girl couldn't take constructive criticism. If she thought she was being disrespected she would go on defense mode. She couldn't hear, see or feel the love that was coming her way . She didn't want to trust it let alone accept it. Instead she challenged it. It got to a point where she was going to find herself, by herself. She prayed for a softened heart for years. At times she felt as if God didn't hear her cries.

She questioned why would she be put in situations she couldn't and didn't know how to get herself out of. She was mad at the world because of her past hurts and could care less about the one who was trying to show her otherwise.

Fortunately for her God opened her eyes and her heart and she began to learn how to love..........

We may not get there today, tomorrow or the next day. As long as you fight for what you want an allow yourself to be loved. It won't be so hard to learn that all things is possible. Let go before its too late !

I Never Knew A Love Like This

I kept listening to this song over and over again an thought, how could I flip this and not make it about my man. It would be about my love for music.

Photo

http://youtu.be/BPTZVmJrIpoPhoto

Isn't awesome that you can listen to a song, and that song can uplift you?
Whenever I need spiritual guidance or inspiration. I shuffle through my Gospel favorites.  At the end of my selections I'm either in tears because I feel the words were meant for me; or jamming because it feel so good to my soul.

PhotoPop and Hip-Hop are what I call the "In tunes" . The stuff that get you hype or ready to party. My kids an I love dancing around the house. At times we end up laughing so hard at each other. I laugh because they are trying to do all the dances that are in. They laugh at me because they can't believe  I can do them too. Music feels a void. PhotoIt really takes me out of my element. Dancing and singing. Oh yeah, sometimes I think I can rap too.  Music has been apart of my life since I was a little girl. I remember my grandmother singing gospels songs. My Mahalia Jackson. My dad was Luther Vandross to me. I can hear him singing now. Guess that's where I get the itch to sing from. Now don't get me wrong, I wasn't blessed with the best voice but I that has never stopped me before. Photo
When things were going to hell right before my eyes, my escape would be my music. Any time I hear someone call a female a bitch. I instantly hear Queen Latifah's, U.N.I.T.Y . That was the song to put a dude in check back in the day. Oh how I love my R&B . I have a song for every happy, sad, emotional, and exciting moment in my life. My boyfriend said I'm stuck in the 90's. PhotoBecause when I hear one of my jams I have turned it up and tell a story.
Music has changed so much. But I can always find a song for whatever mood I'm in. When I need to go to sleep and can't because I'm dealing with life's everyday stress; Music wraps its arms around me and sings me to sleep. Besides God, I can always count on it to get me through a trying day. I never knew a love like this...Photo

I'm A 90's Girl

What's the first song that comes to mind when you think of the 90's?Photo You can't think of just artist, Photo
its like the list never ends. If you think about it for a minute or two, every genre was popping. It's time to take you back a bit. As I type I'm listening to Pandora "90's R&B".

Photo As the songs play, I'll talk about about it. As I post the videos, I want you think about what was going on in your life at that time.Photo
About a month ago I was with my cousin and a friend in my truck. I always have music on. But when this song came on they got all excited and started singing.

We started talking about what we were into, how we dressed and had a few laughs.

"Thong song" http://youtu.be/Oai1V7kaFBk
I don't know about you guys but anything with Dru Hill and Sisqo was on heavy rotation. Both male and females were feeling the Thong Song. You know all the chicks started getting creative with the type of thongs they wore at that point.  That summer thongs were on display.

En Vogue was one of my favorite girl groups. Everyone in this group sang their butts off. They had Hit after Hit. Set It Off had a great soundtrack. We can't leave TLC out. They made a statement with "Ain't 2 proud 2 beg".

I remember I was banned from singing this song. My parents didn't listen to all the words. They had radar ears for what that wanted to hear.

  "Understanding" by Xscape,Photo

Ladies how many of you remember  trying to harmonize with your girlfriends?  "What I need from you is understanding, How can we communicate if you don't hear what I say...." The kids these days know about Kandi and Tiny from their reality shows. I'm sure they couldn't name one song these two sung or wrote. Jermaine Dupri had some hot groups back in the day. We all dance to

I loved Kris Kross. Girls were crushing on who liked Daddy Mac or Mac Daddy. May he RIP. Dudes were wearing their clothes backwards and baggy. But their pants were on their ass. I dont' get why they started sagging. Remember cross colors? That was around the same time. Early 80's to late 90's. I can't believe we used to dress that way.

 What about the collaborations
"What's it gonna be", Busts ft. Janet Jackson.

Janet and Busta Did the damn thing on this song and video. Busta can still hang with these young bucks out now. Just today I heard him on a Beyonce Partition Remix.   Whatever happen to Zhane? Well its a groove thang, Its gotta funky swing.

Wow these songs still rock.
http://youtu.be/HrBnEaQd4ZY
My Parents thought I was crazy singing TLC's Ain't 2 Proud 2 beg. Hell I used to blast  "I wanna sex up you" or Jodeci " Freek'n you" when I alone.
These were songs you sang real low when your parents were around; but when you got around your friends you sang the song like you understood what they were really talking about. Then there was LL Cool J, "Doin it". We'd get together and discuss what he was talking about  and how sexy he was.
http://youtu.be/lHHtTPH8Nkg

I swear I couldn't stand LL when he first came out. But then he toned down that hardcore image and focused on talking to the ladies. That did it for me. How about a song you'd sing to your woman or man? Deborah Cox ft. RL from Next, "We can't be friends". I think we can all relate to this one time or another. This song was played when
you were still feeling your ex, and being friends was hard to deal with.

Who didn't love 702 "Get it together", or Subway "This lil game we play".
http://youtu.be/LdpQfyJFu9A

Photo
"Blackberry Molasses" was my jam. Mista wasn't around for long. But we got Bobby Valentino still doing a lil something. Mary J. Blige and R. Kelly was it in the 90's. They have too many songs to just pick one.  Mary, " love no limit", " Reminisce",  and "Real love".
 http://youtu.be/kAzKXfAwh48
Kellz and his freaky self  has hella hits. " you remind me of my Jeep",

 http://youtu.be/oj_BwSUusbs

Everybody knew I was in love with NAS! I loved his Lyrics and his Cuteness. He was raw but real. He spoke the truth. When he did "If I Ruled The world"
I almost fell out. I love Miss Lauryn Hill. These two are my all time favorites.
I don't think it would be fair to single out One song from L Boogie"s Miseducation Of Lauryn HIll. The whole album is a classic. But If I have to say any, I love Zion, Doo Wop (That Thing) and Nothing Even Matters feat. D'Angelo.

Bad Boy Ruled the charts in the 90's. Puff had Lil Kim, Faith, Carl Thomas, 112,  Craig Mac and Total. I know I'm leaving someone out of this 90's journey.

Good Girl

 Photo
Calling all "good girl's"! Do we still exist? I think we've been out numbered by these wanna be basketball, football wives and rapper wives.
We used to be the chase, now we're doing chasing. No longer looking for love but a come up or to gain status. Where are our goals? Do we not believe in our future anymore? What are we teaching our sons and daughters?Photo
We're telling our young men, it's okay when a thirsty girl approach them.Photo
Females are half naked and materialistic. Our daughters don't have a chance; because we are leading them in he wrong direction. We are suppose to be their role models.
What ever happen to being established first? How can you figure out who your are when your busy trying to figure out your role in "your wanna be" relationship. We're no longer dating, but eager to give it up. You just told him you were easy. As a little girl we are taught to secure our purses. Stop giving away all your goods. Once they get in it, they no longer care abut how smart you are or about you having goals.
 Photo

Guys are out here trying to be ballers or a boss without and education. Still living at home with their mommy. Don't have their own money, and your quick to share everything you have. Body and money. Your not telling them that they have to work hard to have a place in your life. Find a man that's eager to show you he can handle his own, while helping you achieve your goals. Fellas find a lady that have respect for herself and want something for her future. Photo
Our generation is growing up so fast and in the wrong direction. We need to stop trying to please the person standing next to us, and focus on what we want out of life.

She Ain't Loyal

Good music where are you? We have been defeated with these degrading anthems. Females are settling for how dudes see us now a days. Every rapper/singer has a side chick, main chick and or a groupie anthem. These songs are in heavy rotation on the radio and in clubs. Yes we are singing these songs like we are okay with it. Including myself. I rock hard to Chris Brown's "She Ain't Loyal". Photo Of course there are many females out here that will leave there man to be with a baller, rapper actor, singer or next dude they think they believe they can get more out of.  Photo By all means they are going to snag one. We are giving them the ammunition to do so. These songs are dead on. We are lost and appear to be okay with it. Just about every song on Trey Songz albums are telling you to cheat, leave your man.Photo  But if we listen to the words carefully. They are honest in what they want. They aren't looking for love. All they want is SEX. Sadly these chicks are okay and are lined up to give them what they want. Photo
Females need to get it together. It isn't okay being some one's side chick, or main chick. How bout settle for being the only chick.
